Herbal Solutions

Many individuals experience getting certain amounts of sweating, and this is considered perfectly normal. However excessive sweating is quite an abnormal condition and should be cared for.

Excessive moisture in the skin always increases the possibility of further infection with fungus and bacteria, especially on the feet, around the genital areas and under the armpits. If the armpits and groins are persistently sweaty, strong objectionable odors may arise. These odors arise from the breakdown of sweat and cellular debris, due to action of germs on the skin.

The sweat glands under the arms and in the groin release a substance which is a related cause of body odor. In our daily lives, we get constantly exposed to toxins in our homes, food, and air that accumulate in the body when the organs cannot excrete them. The liver and intestines may be clogged up, causing odors to emanate from the body.

Major Factors Causing Body Odor

Body odor may be caused by a variety of natural and environmental factors, and may also be brought about by a person's eating habits. Some individuals who eat large amounts of meat or who are vegetarians have a very distinctive body odor, which may smell offensive.

Some individuals cannot metabolize foods containing large amounts of choline, such as eggs, fish, liver and legumes that result in a "fishy" smell. Another cause for the body odor may be the dietary imbalances, which results in constipation. Depression can be another cause of body odor. When one is depressed, an indifference to self-care can often be seen, not only in terms of bathing, but of clothing, grooming, and hair care as well.

Certain food and drinks, such as onions, garlic, curry, certain spicy foods, coffee and alcohol, are also some of the causes of bad odor. Fried and baked food may contain rancid fats and oils that lead to smelly odors. Other factors causing bad odor may be underlying causes of excessive sweating, such as low blood sugar, liver disease, diabetes, parasites, metabolic dysfunction, menopause, or emotional stress.

Herbal Home Remedies For Treating Body Odor

Many simple home treatments are easily available in treating, or reducing the negative effects of bad odor. Vinegar is also an effective home remedy. Apply cider vinegar or white vinegar for unpleasant armpit odor, use a cotton swab to apply over the affected areas.

However, do not apply vinegar on freshly shaved skin as this may sting and cause a rash. A cupful of camphor oil and boiled mint leaves will also effectively eradicate body odors. Applying baking soda with lemon on the underarms also kills bacteria, and aids in absorbing sweat.

Eating healthy food that contains considerable amounts of fiber, whole grains, wheat, soy products and green leafy veggies also helps. You may also include red radish juice in your diet. You may also apply these on your feet, under the arm and between the toes after the shower. In addition, mixing a tablespoon of honey to lukewarm water as a rinsing solution will help in keeping body odor in check.
